Greenheck Fan Corporation Cooperative Education Program
Introduction
In January of 1993, the Engineering Co-op program at Greenheck Fan began with
a two term position (spring-summer) in Manufacturing Engineering.
The following year a second position was approved in Product Engineering.
Both positions are renewed bi-annually and are open to full-time
students enrolled in one of the Bachelor level engineering disciplines
such as electrical and computer engineering, mechanical engineering,
engineering mechanics, industrial engineering, or manufacturing
engineering.
Employment
Co-op positions are two terms in duration; either January through August or
June through December, with the incoming candidates overlapping
those candidates that are outgoing. Starting and ending dates
are coordinated to meet the student's academic schedule. Employment
involves working a 40 hour week with any company recognized holidays
as paid time off.
Housing
Co-op students are responsible for their own housing arrangements. However,
the human resource department will provide recommendations, and
put students in touch with one another. Several of the nearby
apartment complexes offer short-term leases.
Summary
Greenheck Fan is very proud of its involvement in the cooperative
education process and is committed to furthering a students education
by partnering them with full-time engineers and providing hands-on
experience. We have been extremely pleased with the results of
the co-op program, and have found it to be a win-win relationship.

Comments from previous Co-op Students
Here’s what some of our past co-op students have had to say about their experience at Greenheck. . .
“…The knowledge I have gained throughout my time as a co-op has been tremendous, and will play a major role as I continue in my career. It was a pleasure to have worked with a wide variety of people on many projects.”
Scott Baldwin, Michigan Tech (Spring/Summer 2002)
“…From day one, I was exposed to the daily responsibilities of an engineer and the entire experience has been rewarding for me. The projects and tasks assigned were diverse, which exposed me to many different manufacturing problems and kept my interest at a peak.”
Scott Susa, UW-Platteville (Spring/Summer 2002)
“…My experience here has been very positive and given me an in-depth look at the daily functions and responsibilities of an engineer. I am confident that I will take this knowledge with me back to school, and find a new light being shone onto the problems and projects in the classroom.”
Jonathan Tiefert, Michigan Tech (Spring/Summer 2001)
“…Throughout my co-op term, I have been exposed to more new ideas, concepts and people than I ever thought I would. These interactions have allowed me to grow both personally and professionally as I begin my career as a manufacturing engineer.”
Kristin Kasbaum, UW-Stout (Summer/Fall 2001)
“...I was able to work with many people on a variety of projects which provided me a very diverse work environment. . . .I have been surrounded by co-workers who care about a common goal and work well together to achieve it.”
Joy Roskom, UW-Stout (Spring/Summer 2000)
“...I have appreciated the effort put forth by fellow manufacturing engineers to increase my knowledge and skills in our profession. . . .The tasks and responsibilities given to me have prepared me to further my education and enter the workforce with confidence, not skepticism.”
Don Heiliger, UW-Madison (Spring/Summer 2000)
“...I have immensely enjoyed the time I spent with everyone. . . .The knowledge and experience that I have gained will continue to help me throughout my education and career.”
Nathan Stoflet, UW-Platteville (Summer/Fall 2000)
“...I was also impressed by the way everyone accepted me as part of the team, treated me with respect, and allowed me to make my own mistakes and decisions. This positive attitude has made my co-op very rewarding.”
Brandon Ollanketo, Michigan Tech (Summer/Fall 1999)
“...As I near the end of my co-op term I have only one regret, I wish the term lasted another six months!”
“...One thing that will stand out in my mind when I think about my time here at Greenheck is the people. I have been treated with nothing but respect and friendly attitudes from my first interview right through to my last day.”
Don Callender, Michigan Tech (Summer/Fall 1997)
“...Greenheck Fan's manufacturing engineering co-op program was very impressive. I have gained valuable knowledge of manufacturing and have been exposed to a part of industry I would not have obtained from any college curriculum. My engineering knowledge has been accelerated by numerous challenging projects encompassing a vast array of subjects.”
Jeff Thompson, UW-Madison (Summer/Fall 1997)
“...I believe I have learned a great deal more than my three years of college have been able to teach me with regards to what it means, and what is involved with, working as an engineer in industry.”
“...My experience at Greenheck has been positive in all ways. The company atmosphere is something I will not soon forget.”
Matt Warren, UW-Madison (Summer/Fall 1997)
“...The Greenheck engineering co-op program has a tradition of being beneficial for both the student and the company. ...Greenhecks success is growing greater every year, and I am proud to have been associated with this fine company.”
Scott Pirk, UW-Madison (Summer/Fall 1996)
“...I was able to input my thoughts on my tasks and schedule, and on most days I was individually responsible for splitting up my time appropriately.”
“...Greenheck made a continuous effort to expose me to the many aspects of engineering within a manufacturing company.”
Paul Riemer, UW-Madison (Summer/Fall 1996)
“...The Manufacturing Engineering position provided a very diverse, all-encompassing workload which exposed me to many different manufacturing issues.”
“...Another point, which cannot be stressed enough, was the great people I was able to work with. I was pleasantly surprised by the way I was received. Both fellow engineers and shop employees treated me just like any other engineer.”
Jason Waller, UW-Madison (Spring/Summer 1996)
“...The other engineers at Greenheck were really receptive. I was treated as a team player and with the respect of an engineer. . . . Until my co-op experience, my engineering talents seemed to exist entirely in a vacuum. These projects allowed me to express those talents, and gave considerable weight to my worth as an engineer.”
Scott Delaney, UW-Madison (Summer/Fall 1995)
“...Probably the best thing about working at Greenheck is the opportunities I have had to expand my horizons. This company gave me a real feel for what a full-time engineering job will entail. . . . I found that designing a product and seeing it used is one of the most enjoyable and rewarding jobs I have had.”
Tim Lyga, UW-Madison (Summer/Fall 1993)
