CAPS - COMPUTER AIDED PRODUCT SELECTION PROGRAM

FAQ FOR CAPS

CameraQ. I want to e-mail someone a fan curve I have on screen, how do I do it?

A. All fan curves are displayed for the selection highlighted.  The camera icon  over in the Navigation area will allow you to print or create a PDF file of the current performance curve displayed.

Choose PDF file and you can send that PDF file to another person via email.

Q. I have created a job and made a selection, but I need to correct an elevation and CAPS will not let me into the elevation field to change it.

A. CAPS will let you enter in an elevation when you first create the job file. It then locks this elevation in after the first selection is made and saved. The reason is a change in elevation can cause the size you have previously selected to become invalid at a different altitude.

Q. Can CAPS be installed onto a Network?

A. Yes, there is an option during installation that allows the user to place the program onto a network. However, this is just a share point for the install process, the program still needs to be fully installed onto a PC or Workstation from the network location in order for the application to run.

Q. I want to get the specifications on some of the products that Greenheck offers, where do I look to find them?

A. In CAPS, when you are on the product menu and are looking at a specific model, look at the text box below the product's picture for a tab labeled Specs. This tab contains the specification for the model you are presently viewing. You can highlight all of the text in that area, hold down the Ctrl key and press the letter "C" key (this will copy the highlighted text into the computer's clipboard) or right click with your mouse after highlighted and do a copy function. Now open a word processing software and hold down the Ctrl key and press the letter "V" key, or go up under the Edit menu and do a Paste function. This will place the copied text onto the page. You can now add your own comments or other Greenheck product specifications onto the document and then print them when you are finished.

Q. Where can I find fan and accessory weights?

A. All fan weights, less accessories, can be found in CAPS or in the printed catalogs. Accessory weights are currently available in the Series 21 Centrifugal, Series 41 Centrifugal, and Industrial Process fan price books. Motor weights are listed in the motor price sheets. Look for future versions of CAPS to provide the weights of the entire fan package including accessories and motors.

Q. When selecting a response control vane axial (VRD), what is the TD Volume?

A. CAPS displays a term that cannot be found in the vane axial brochure or performance manual. This term is TD Volume. TD Volume, or Turn Down Volume, is the lowest volume (or cfm) available when the blade pitch is turned down to its minimum on a response control vane axial fan. This information is extremely valuable to engineers who are designing a variable air volume system where the fan is required to provide a wide range of volumes.

Q. Why do my sleeve lengths change in CAPS on certain line items? I want the sleeve size I entered. (This occurs when an OCI, TOR, RRL or combinations of these are selected).

A. The sleeve length only extends when you have a height of less than 12 inches with a TOR, RRL, OCI option. Because the actuator has to be mounted horizontally due to the height constraint, the sleeve length must be extended. When this occurs, the TOR, RRL, OCI option must be mounted in the sleeve in front of the actuator. If we do not extend the sleeve, there is not enough room. The key is the A dimension. We cannot push the A dimension back without extending the sleeve as we may be pushing the damper out of the wall.

Q. Why doesn't CAPS default to external mount actuator when we do not select an actuator or select a manual quadrant? What is the part # for an extension pin kit on a VCD?

A. Greenheck's standard default for a VCD is an internal, left mounted actuator. The internal default was chosen because Greenheck only has external kit part numbers. If an external mount is selected with or without a factory supplied actuator, an extension pin kit (part #809735) is always supplied. If an internal mount is selected and the customer would like to convert to a customer supplied external mount, an extension pin kit must be ordered. We are looking at changing CAPS to force an actuator location (internal or external) before the file can be saved. NOTE: The extension pin kit is only applicable for single section wide VCDs without a jackshaft.

Q. I have another question that is not here on this list, how do I get an answer to it?

A. E-mail Greenheck with any other questions you might have at: caps@greenheck.com
